The exhibition is not a thematic show. “Why We Have Wars” features fourteen independent and individual approaches represented by artists-outsiders who use art to speak out on matters that are of concern to them. A uniting characteristic of the gathered works is their absolute variety in terms of forms, ideas and artists’ approaches to life. Therefore, each artist has been given a separate space in the exhibition for the purpose of presenting an extensive body of works that convey the concept and effects of their artistic endeavours, often pursued for many years. There are, however, some common themes in works by different artists that connect these “individual shows.” Therefore, even though viewers are welcome to start their tour of the exhibition at any point, and focus on individual artists, we have also proposed thematic paths through the show that convey the essential problems and approaches represented in art created by outsiders. The titles of the paths have been borrowed from works in the exhibition.
